FAQs

All You Need to Know

  • How do I book a session?

    • To schedule a session please reach out via email or the form under the "Contact" page on this site.  We will figure out a day and time that works best and then I will come to your home for your appointment.

  • How do you accept payment?

    • I only accept private pay.  Payment is due at the time of service.  I accept cash, Venmo, PayPal, and debit/credit card. Breastfeeding support is a covered benefit under the Affordable Care Act. Health insurance plans must provide breastfeeding support, counseling, and equipment for the duration of breastfeeding. These services may be provided before and after birth. At the end of your session, I will provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance and be reimbursed. It is your responsibility to check with insurance to ensure that you are covered for these support services.

  • Why can’t you bill the insurance company to get paid by them?

    • It requires extensive effort and time, sometimes MONTHS, to process claims with insurance companies and even then there is not guarantee of payment. It also requires me to pay a biller to engage in all the work with no guarantee that I will be paid. Because you have the financial relationship with your insurer you have more leverage and RIGHTS to get reimbursed according to your benefits in a more reasonable amount of time, typically about 3 to 4 weeks.

  • What do I need to submit to my insurance company so I can get reimbursed?

    • All you need is a super bill. It contains all of the required information for your claim to be processed and you will receive it at the end of your sessions.

  • Why can’t you give me simple advice over email to tie me over until I see you?

    •  Lactation and the skills required for infant feeding are complex. It is difficult to give helpful information unless I know more about the situation.

  • Why can’t you talk to me on the phone so I can explain to you and see if you can help me?

    • In order to provide best service, I need to conduct a comprehensive assessment and gather FULL medical, lactation and infant feeding history.  Additionally, I need a signed consent form from you in order to give you any advice.

  • Will one visit fix everything?

    • NO!! Unless all you really want is reassurance because everything is working effectively. Lactation and infant feeding issues are typically complex and require changes/adjustments to the initial plan. Most people need 4-6 visits.

  • Can you help me if I am only bottle-feeding?

    • ABSOLUTELY!!!! We can help you optimize your baby’s feeding experience and oral function whether you bottle, cup, spoon, syringe or body feed.

  • Can you help me if I am exclusively pumping?

    • DEFINITELY! Part of the prenatal consult involves making sure you have applied for (or already received) your pump from your insurance. Once baby comes, we ensure you have best fitting flanges and optimize pumping sessions to get the most out of them and learn how to maintain the level of production you desire for as long as you have in mind.

  • Can you help me when it is time for my baby to start eating solids?

    • YES!!! This is one of my favorite sessions!! We can teach you about optimal nutrition and how to introduce foods in a way that optimizes self-feeding and safety skills.
